{{note|This is the first I have ever written, and I apologise if this is not brilliant. I hope that some feedback could be provided if possible? :)}}
Before I get into the story, I should explain that maybe a year ago I basically lived on the MMO game Forsaken World. Of course, naturally, the course of exams and friends and what not started to get in the way, and there wasn't really time for the game anymore, so I unfortunately had to give it in (as much as I didn't want to.)
I returned to Steam maybe a month or so ago to find somebody playing it via Steam and the memories started to come back of my old guild and server. I wanted to return to the game almost immediately, telling them I hope to see them there and signing out. After downloading the game from the site (which is no fun, I have to admit that), I loaded up the launcher and patcher. Normally, there shouldn't be anything to patch as it's downloaded everything, but it had one pack downloading. Just the one.
"What could be downloading?" I asked myself. "Surely everything has finished?"
However, I let it carry on as I must, and soon it had finished and the game loaded up. Taking a few minutes to remember my details, I eventually typed them in and logged in. The server page loaded up, and it said I had one character (to which I do remember having), however when it came to the character page, it was the Assassin I remember very well, but she was just sat there like she would if she was being deleted. If it was being deleted, it would say "This character will be deleted in (x) days." but I noticed it said "This character has been forsaken for 381 days."
"Forsaken for 381 days...what could...?" And then it clicked. She still sat there, staring at me blankly, in fact, almost looking upset. I tried to sign into her, but a message appeared saying "This character has been forsaken. Please make a new one."
Seeing that I had no choice, I went and made another Assassin like before, and noticed the world was busy as ever, the world chat filling up faster than I could take in everything as always. The memories were hitting me already. I came to level 10 in the starting area (13 by the time I'd finished) and caught myself a very friendly mentor already through just asking random people, as the game gives you the option to do that. We continued to talk during the few minutse I was there, and as soon as I got to the section of leaving and going to Freedom Harbor, everything changed.
I arrived as normal, but the one thing I noticed was there was absolutely no NPCs there at all. I initially thought that my ping was high, because that would usually make NPCs disappear for a brief time, so I went and checked it in the bottom corner. The ping I had was absolutely fine, about 100ms was normal for the server I played on in the past.
Next, I chose to go to the next storyline character who is located in the Craftsman Fair. I noticed that was also empty. "Where is everyone?" I asked myself. The next thing I noticed: the world chat had completely died, and there were no players or NPCs at all. I chose to ask in chat, hoping this was just a graphical error, and I received a PM around five seconds later from a "Dyos". The name seemed familiar, then it clicked: the god of Light. Someone nobody ever saw or heard from.
The message simply said: "There is nobody in a world so forsaken. You are truly alone."
I checked my friends list frantically, checking the mentor section. Nobody. Then, another message which read: "I have told you. You are alone in this world."
A loading screen, and I appeared in what looked like a castle. A bit like the one in the Kindred starting area, but a bit different in structure. It was darker, much more sinister. A quest appeared, simply called "Forsaken". I auto-pathed to "The Altar", and my Assassin began to walk slowly down the long, dark corridor. I noticed that along the side, instead of things like mannequins and that sort of typically creepy thing, there were characters, and above them, names of people I remembered.
Needless to say, I was quite scared at this point. I don't ever remember any game acting like that, and the next thing I knew, I was stood at the altar. A replica of my Assassin was stood there, in front of me, and in front of the shrine. Another message: "You have forsaken all of your friends, you have forsaken the planet." And then one more. "Now, we shall forsake you."
Before I could re-act, she was slain. The game then closed itself.
My desktop was empty apart from one, single notepad file in the center of the desktop. I opened it up. There were only a few words there. Words I shall never forget.
"You have been forsaken..."
